When You Smile

Now that the night has become longer;
now that leaves dance at the corner;
now that there are celebrations in the streets;
today that the cold brings so many memories;

now that words are unnecessary;
now that the wind is blowing so hard;
today that I don’t need to see you nor talk to you
to know that you’re by my side…

There’s Christmas in my heart,
when you smile, happy to see me,
when the night becomes colder,
when you hold onto my body.
And colourful lights
shine on me night and day.
You ignite them with your smile,
when you talk to me with your heart.

You leave emptiness when you get up;
emptiness fills the house when nobody’s there.
All that’s left are small things,
just like a long hair left on a jersey.

You said you’d never ever come back.
The patient time kept going by.
Who’d say that today you’d be waiting
for us to get together by your side?

There’s Christmas in your heart,
when I smile, happy to see you,
when the night becomes clearer,
when I hold onto your body.
And colourful lights
shine on me night and day.
Your smile ignites them,
when I talk to you with my heart.

When You Smile (alternative version)

Now that the night has become longer;
now that leaves dance at the corner;
now that there are celebrations in the streets;
today that the cold brings so many memories;

now that words are important;
now that the wind is blowing so hard;
today when they don’t allow us to see you,
nor can you speak,
you always have us by your side.

It’s Christmas and in my heart
hope is beating
that you’ll be home soon,
when this nightmare should end.
And the lights and the colour
that we make shine these days
denounce injustice.
You’ll never walk alone.

The emptiness leaves you counting the days
and nights far away from home, without freedom.
You are men of peace and we want you free,
just it’s shown by the yellow ribbon on the jersey.

We said we’d never give up,
we’d keep on standing tall and confident.
Your example is one of determination and dignity.
We want you all together by our side.

It’s Christmas and in my heart
hope is beating
that you’ll be home soon,
when this nightmare should end.
And the lights and the colour
that we make shine these days
denounce injustice.
You’ll never walk alone.

Rururu

Straighten your head up.
Shoulders slightly back, inhale on the spot.

Worldwide, in each apartment -
Potap songs, where do not turn.
Immediately get stuck on a brand new clip.
Nastya in a bathing suit, on, look.

In each car, in each bus.
In any cafe, in any restaurant.
On the positive two, I'm sorry, Nastya.
We'll tear the locomotive of songs.

Chorus:
And I, and I, and ...
And I oru Ruu RuRu Ruru hands up, with us all.
RuRu RuRu RuRu hands up, I yell at you.
We are stars, we are chips, you like us!
And I oru Ruu RuRu Ruru hands up, with us all.

Everywhere I pro Kanal my super sexy vocals.
What do not turn on the channel - all Potap sank.
I will be popular above and below.
As long as men want to get a TV.

Chorus:
And I, and I, and ...
And I oru Ru Ru Ru Ru Ru Ru arms up, with us all.
Ru-Ru Ru-Ru Rou-Ru Hands up, I yell at you.
We are stars, we are chips, you like us!
And I oru Ru Ru Ru Ru Ru Ru arms up, with us all.

If in a dark alley suddenly attacked, -
Raise your hands up and dance with us.
Show this dance, surprise them with a smile.
And then any asshole suddenly realize his mistake.

Or are you in the disco dance always shy?
Raise your hands up and show this dance!
And then maybe as a joke, or maybe 'For fun'
They will call you for a moment: 'Our king, the king of the dance floor.'

Accordion

Gather your thoughts with you,
Let go of your body with me,
All that you give - you will get back,
This is our indecent secret.

It will happen (this night)
Can happen (anything you want)
It will happen (carefully)
Want to happen
Do you already have?

You today
Only mine
Door closed
Just you and me ...

Three or two under the hood roars,
You asked for it yourself,
Buckle up, I'm cornering
Nobody will find us here.

It will happen (this night)
Can happen (anything you want)
It will happen (carefully)
Want to happen
Do you think it is fashionable!

You today
Only mine
Door closed
Just you and me ...

When your arms, legs, head get tired,
We both know that you will not leave alone,
We have two days left in the morning,
There are you and me, and you are only mine today.

Want to run away
Do you want to kiss me
Checkmate and on the last row
Maybe find out
Maybe ask you:
Honey, can you have one?

You today
Only mine
Door closed
Just you and me ...

"In the kingdom of trolls, the main troll ..."

In the kingdom of trolls, the main troll
And citizen
Was, of course, the king himself -
Only he alone.

It happened that he was really cruel -
Often whipped!
He was terribly truthful
This king.

Ten time per hour he got angry
Poor king.
Every evening he set
A new password.

He began to beat his subjects
To the last.
It's true, he loved the truth
Most al all.

Maybe somebody will the truth
Tell him secretly,
But under the cruel king
Were no fools.

And the king called - what fun! -
Competition of buffoons:
Who makes faces most successfully
Money or stof.

What a goal? And in the joke is salt,
A quota of truth is there.
The king learned the truth
Of trivialities.

But ever more they writhed
Soon were finished!
And mournfully ended
The competition of the fools.

Where you are

Versions: #2
Far away, far away, by the green river,
Where the cold wind is hardly known,
On the hot sand the summer gathering flowers, while living it's traces.
Somewhere , where you are, somewhere, where you are.

The moon is disappearing, you're standing by the window
And looking at the green willow.
The spring is by the grand piano, but the melody of dream somewhere on the hot sand .
Somewhere , where you are, somewhere, where you are.

But one winter morning or maybe in spring
Or maybe in autumn sometime
You'll wake up alone, you'll open the window and you'll see my summer.

There where I'm and you are, the evening is rising the bridges.
And covering the footprints where we are.
There where I'm and you are, it takes my dreams away.
And dreams are melting by the water, there where I'm and you are.
There where I'm and you are and white piano keys flowers.
There where I'm and you are and black rivers bridges.
There where I'm and you are our dreams are leaving us.
There where I'm and you are, There where I'm and you are.

You are living , but you are hidden
By stupid old willow.
You can't see the flowers on the hot sand and can't hear me where you are.
Where you are, where you are, where you are, where you are.

Maybe over the mountain, maybe over the river,
Sometime flying in my dreams,
By the green river wandering our dreams, on the hot sand they are melting.

Ballad to the Moon

Versions: #2
It was, in the dark night,
On the yellowed steeple,
The moon, the moon
Like a dot on an i.

Moon, what dark spirit
Walks at the end of a leash
Through the gloom,
Your face and your profile?

Are you the one-eyed heavens’ single eye?
Which bigoted cherub
Peers at us
Beneath your pale mask?

Are you merely a ball?
A big fat daddy-long-legs
That rolls, that rolls
Without legs and arms?

Pfeif ein Lied bei der Arbeit

Pfeif einfach ein Lied bei der Arbeit
Dann können wir gemeinsam fröhlich
Dieses Haus in Ordnung bringen
Also summ eine fröhliche Melodie, hmm...

On the trains at night

I've looked all around this city
And it's like looking at myself*
Full of things that I already know
When I come back it seems like I never left
The street is a dance floor
She smiles at me with metal between her teeth
And I glance back at her
And every time, I fall over again
The two of us on a moped without our helmets

We've seen the neighbourhood, the locals
Broken glasses and heroin on tin foil
We were walking on the trains at night
To write our names
And to add a bit of colour

Because when I open my eyes and I look up at the sky
I don't see a rainbow anymore
But only the smog from factories
I want to feel lighter

I saw you light up at dawn
You were beautiful even when all the streetlights turned off
There are only runaways beyond here
Those at my age who have already done it, never return
The street is a dance floor
And she smiles at me while I drive and I'm high
In the fast lane
And every time, I fall over again
You hold me tight and drag me down lower

We saw the pissed-off bourgeois**
Drunk Romanians and some addicts by the station
We were walking on the trains at night
To write our names
And to add a bit of colour

Because when I open my eyes and I look up at the sky
I don't see a rainbow anymore
But only the smog from factories
I want to feel lighter

Because when I open my eyes and I look up at the sky
I don't see a rainbow anymore
But only the smog from factories
I want to feel lighter

Because when I open my eyes and I look up at the sky
I don't see a rainbow anymore
But only the smog from factories
I want to feel lighter

Because when I open my eyes and I look up at the sky
I don't see a rainbow anymore

Szélsodorta csillag

Kezdetekben a szél hozott
Akár egy magot.
Viccesen elgondolkodtatott
„ Látott-e valaki már szél hozta csillagot?
De később,
Mikor homlokomra estél
És belém gyökereztél
Megértettem, csak egy szem vagy
Agyamba vadul fúródott mohó-mag
Érdes sugaraival meggyökerezett
Eredet
Milyen kár,hogy
Fényből
A világosságba szült virágod
Nem látható
Csak ha már elsötétült
Saját világom.

Lány a kávézóból

Az összes kinccsel rendelkeztél
amit a természet adhatott
Lány a kávézóból
Te tényleg a gyötrelem szakadékába taszítottál
Látni ily szépséget:
a szempárt mely rám villant
Szem elől veszítettelek
de éjjelente
kiolvasztalak emlékeim
jégverméből.

Nem voltál az életem szerelme
de még mindig hiányzol
Nem voltál az életem szerelme
és semmit sem tudok rólad.

Lány a kávézóból
A könnyek felszáradtak
Nem tagadom
Lány a kávézóból
Elszállt a varázs
és nem sírok többé
utánad, az elefántcsontszínű bőröd után,
Sem a bensőmben ziláló Éjkirálynő,
Sem bálványok,
Sem csillagképek
nem tudtak segíteni neked,
hogy vétkezzek.

Nem voltál az életem szerelme
de még mindig hiányzol
Nem voltál az életem szerelme
és semmit sem tudok rólad.

Lány a kávézóból
Felrobbant bennem egy bomba
Túlcsordult a szívem
Lány a kávézóból
Meghódítottál
És akarom, hogy tudd,
háború dúlt bensőmben
De telik lassan az idő,
Lehet, egy évszázad is kell
vagy több,
de elfelejtem majd
a szemed,
mely szomorúan csillogott.

Nem voltál az életem szerelme
de még mindig hiányzol
Nem voltál az életem szerelme
és semmit sem tudok rólad.

Örökkön örökké

A hűség sohasem tartja be, amit ígér nekünk
Mert úgy múlik el, mint az éj
Az élvezetek hajhászása nem hoz boldogságot
Egy angyal vigyázott ránk

Ha a dolgok valamikor nehézzé válnak
Semmi nem néz ki jól
Akkor ismét bátorságot ad e dal

Örökkön örökké, a szívem örökké érted ver

A boldogság távolmarad, amíg üldözöd
Elsurran tőled, mint egy tolvaj
Úgyhogy ha egy reménysugarat kérsz tőlem
Téged még mindig szeretlek

Ha a dolgok valamikor nehézzé válnak
Semmi nem néz ki jól
Akkor ismét bátorságot ad e dal

Örökkön örökké, a szívem örökké érted ver

Ahol a szeretet fénye csillog.
Karácsonyra hazatérek
Ha másképp nem, álmaimban.

Now the heart is stone

Days and years passed since
You told me: lead me.
Nights wept with rainfalls,
And music was killed by silence.

Your name was known, known to all
So at least they talked to me.
For a long time, easy dreams wouldn't call,
At night, footsteps would scare me.

And now, the heart is stone
It no longer weeps,
It's not afraid of footsteps
In the evening

On top

After all, with your hands
you could have done a lot of things
A lot of things
Call my number
Take the dog out for a walk
Order some food
Instead you walk away
You wave me hi with the hand
Yeah, but someone else's hand
Instead you walk away
Then you turn your back slowly
Yeah, but with someone else's eyes

And deep deep deep down, I'm fine
Deep deep deep down I'm fine
And deep deep deep down you're fine
Deep deep deep down you're fine
as well

And then, and then, and then
We'll find ourselves again
And then and then and then
Just like when you're on top of me

Deep deep deep down I'm fine
Deep deep deep down I'm fine
And deep deep deep down you're fine
Deep deep deep down you're fine
as well

After all, with your hands
you could have done a lot of things
a lot of things
Please tell him
That tonight I'm staying clean
And that I hurt when I'm alone, too
That all alone I can't seem to find myself
and I can also walk backwards
by your house since hours
and I'm done with your father staring at me

And then, and then, and then
We'll find ourselves again
And then and then and then
Just like when you're on top of me

Deep deep deep down I'm fine
Deep deep deep down I'm fine

You were hurting before, too
long before you were hurting
with your head on the stairs
at 7 in the morning
While, outside, on a newspaper
my face is on the front page
And you run through the street
chasing a paper piece
that won't stop flying
and you quit smoking
and everytime you feel bad
you empty the whole kitchen

How come, how come
you never lose your way anymore?
How come, how come
you didn't leave?

You were hurting before, too
long before summer
With your head underwater
and sand between your toes

How come, how come
You never get seasalt on you anymore?
How come, how come
you didn't disappear?

Come on, take your clothes off
It's all that you never say
I love you, you know
It's all that I never say

I Will Make Myself Up And Wait For You

The grasshoppers are chirping,
The trees of the forest are lulling,
Lulling the minds of the farmers.
The sound of the bells
At the necks of the buffalos
Tells of the life back home on the farm.
The smell of the cheeks1 of the forest people
Is like the smell of angels' cheeks2.
Chatting is what we do
Because it simply is in our nature.
Whoever wants to be my lover
Must have this trait as well.

Has rice harvest already come?
Who will come and become my lover,
The lover of a farmer girl?
Don't you like fermented fish?
I dislike those adulterous drunkards,
Those flirting men.
If you want to meet me,
Come to my kitchen, where we can spend some time together,
I will prepare to reveal my feelings to you
And let you come in, I will make myself up3 and wait.

  • refers to the Thai sniff kiss, called 'หอมแก้ม'('smell cheek'), which is a common way of greeting loved ones and obviously consists of smelling eachother's cheeks
  • specially refers to young, female angels as 'สาว' means 'young woman' or 'maiden'
  • 'ทาแป้ง' literally translates to 'to apply (talcum) powder' which many Thais (especially those from rural regions) do every evening before going to sleep because of its cooling effect (but some also do it for beauty)

Open Up Your Heart

She was like that
Life was kind of tasteless
You sang 'I just want a lover
That will put an end to my suffering'

And suddenly
Though everything could happen
You saw flowers blossom in your desert
But you didn't pay to have it

And the light in your eyes faked it
Pretending you didn't want it
Trying not to see

Old habit of thinking
That you can always find
Someone better
Than you could ever find

So open up your heart, ma'am
And go say that you love
Those who can't wait
To hear you say this

Ruthlessly
Come close to me
So this story
Can have a start
And a middle

I wish I were your little sheet

When you come out to the balcony
your mother scolds you
and begins the squabbles as you shake off the little sheets

I wish I were the little sheet
on your little bed
to wrap your body
and take your kiss

As the passerbys walk past
they look at you with desire
and you put them in a passionate mood
as you shake off the little sheets

At the Grave

I have many aunts and uncles,
nephews who became priests,
a family crammed with relatives.
They’re as numerous as flies,
there’s an array of them,
of the kind who don’t talk to each other and never call;
cousins of any degree,
and American grandmas,
an uncle-in-law chasing skirts,1
godmothers, mums and sons,
and daughters of any kind;
and if we get together is because someone has died.

At the grave, at the family grave,
when you’re gone, another one is coming.
At the grave, at the family grave,
for every one dying, a dozen are coming.

When they hold a christening,
nobody ever attends,2
and even less on a wedding: they’re busy.
However, a funeral is for free,
you don’t need to buy a gift,
and you can also underdress.
Everybody’s talking quietly about the poor devil,
they speak well of him with their fingers crossed beneath the table:3
«He was such a nice man, such a good man! He was really good,
even if he was an asshole and a drunkard.»

At the grave, at the family grave,
when you’re gone, another one is coming.
At the grave, at the family grave,
for every one dying, a dozen are coming.

Then there are people who’re just standing there,
glassy-eyed,4
they can’t cry, they’re too upset.
Then there are poeple who shriek,
who cry, who are despairing,
but they won’t even remember the name tomorrow night.
There are people who can’t wait
for the dead to fall on the ground
and for a fight to start between the gravediggers.
And people whom you can see
at the back of the graveyard,
aiming for the widow and the money.

At the grave, at the family grave,
when you’re gone, another one is coming.
At the grave, at the family grave,
for every one dying, a dozen are coming.

Then there’s the buffer
with stale pastry
and shit-tasting wine: it still has the price tag on it.
And there isn’t a single flower around,
and then you leap up
when mom has a seizure.
And while we’re saying goodbye
and condoling,
it seems like everyone is spying and thinking
about who will be the next to end up beneath the stone,
about who will be paying for the next buffet.

At the grave, at the family grave,
when you’re gone, another one is coming.
At the grave, at the family grave,
for every one dying, a dozen are coming.

At the grave, at the family grave,
ay-ay oh-oh-oh.

  • 1. zio custù / zia custuna = a person who is not a relative, yet they are addressed as 'uncle' or 'aunt' (e.g. a close acquaintance).
  • 2. quàter gacc {four cats} = a very small number of people.
  • 3. fà i córegn {make horns} = make a 'horns' sign with your hand, closing it in a fist while keeping your pointing finger and little finger straight. It's a gesture made by supertitious people to avoid bad luck, usually when anything 'bad' happens around them (such as seeing/hearing anything having to do with death).
Usually, the 'horns' {the fingers} are held pointing downward, or toward the thing/person believed to be the cause of the bad luck; when they’re held pointing upward, it’s meant as an insult to somebody (implying that their spouse is cheating on them).
  • 4. böba {hoopoe} = a person acting/looking like a fool.

He hit me with lips he invaded my heart aman aman

He hit me with lips he invaded my heart aman aman

Aman aman how lover said it
Wait I have a word
I'm sweating
Wait I'm not a young boy anymore
I can't walk anymore
Wait you invaded me
You exhaustion me
Wait you lover wait
He will come swiming

Wait, wait he invaded my heart aman aman

Chorus:
He hit me with fire he invaded my heart aman aman
He hit me with lips he invaded my heart aman aman

The Dark Knight

In the dark who stays awake? The black emotions, the mask and the cape
The darkest isn't the midnight, but the limitless human avarice

Underfoot are the black streets. I stand alone at the city's skyline
Don't ask if I'm good or evil. I'm just a mammal which desire to fly

The polarity of good and evil
exists in whether people's last stronghold of pureness can go through the ordeal

Is there a kind of ordeal? Is there a kind of ordeal
which saves the world just like the plots of hero movies?
Is there a kind of firm faith? Is there a kind of vow which
cries for the coming of dawn?

Al the thieves are arrested . For years no one has witnessed robbery
But, like the waves, poverty still inundates people's living dignity

The civilization peaks, while people and bats retreat to the caves
Crime is no longer visible: the legal loopholes and trade harbor it

It's not too hard to tell good from evil
The direst is that everyone turns a blind eye and a deaf ear to reform

Is there a kind of reform? Is there a kind of fervor
which rounds out the end like the plots of hero movies?
Is there a kind of firm faith? Is there a kind of vow which
cries for the coming of dawn? yeah yeah

More and more poisonous rain. More and more catastrophe
Further and further fade out plots of hero movies
Lawyers collude with the clown. Senator sign with consortia
Good compromises with evil

More and more large enterprises. Less and less land for the park
Who pricked the bubble of the plots of hero movies?
Who is it under the mask? No matter who's in disguise
It can't make good its retreat yeah yeah

When we all take to the streets, when we all embrace the faith
When we firsthand enact the plots of hero movies
You are exactly the faith. You are exactly the vow
The world is awaiting you yeah yeah

Pòta

[version from the album Album de famèa]

In Bergamo, you can fix anything with the word pòta.
A pòta is better than many explanations: you even do without speaking.
In Bergamo, for any need, there’s the word pòta.
And when someone is at their wits’s end, they just say ‟pòta…”.2

And pòta (pòta), you start saying it when you babble: pòta (pòta).3
And pòta (pòta), and then you never stop using it, pòta (pòta).
And pòta (pòta), then comes the moment when they say that, pòta (pòta),
and pòta (pòta), the poor devil snuffed it: ‟pòta, poor sod, he was such a good man, you know”.4

But every time we say pòta, we should wash our mouth.5

And pòta (pòta), even friars say that, when they get burned, pòta (pòta).6
And pòta (pòta), pòta Lord, gee, it hurts!
As for bingeing, for eating, he does binge; go get yourself a job, you loafer!
It’s in working that he grumbles; ‟So what?”
And pòta (pòta), so, pòta, he’s not an idiot after all, that pòta there.
And pòta (pòta), he eats, drinks, and dances the mambo; go with the mambo, come on, come on, you fool.7

And pòta (pòta), they say that pòta was the son of ‟Lick”, don’t they? (pòta)
And pòta (pòta), we also say that, when we can’t get it up at night: ‟pòta, it happens” (pòta).
And pòta (pòta), we should no longer say it when the scam, pòta (pòta).
And pòta (pòta), is that of reaching into our pockets, pòta (pòta).
And pòta (pòta), otherwise, the next time, those scoundrels (pòta),
and pòta (pòta), they’re going to hit you a bit lower,
right, because, be they from the left or the right wing, they always hit right in the middle.8

  • 1. pòta is a widespread stock word used in Bergamo and Brescia, northern Italy.
The original meaning is most probably that of pussy; however, it’s no longer used in that sense, and it no longer has any vulgar or negative connotation.
Other less common hypothesis for its etymology include: Latin pōtare {to drink, to drink to forget about something; i.e. 'to not bother'}, though it should have evolved to /ˈpɔda/ (instead of /ˈpɔta/) according to Bergamasque phonology; or Latin pottus {mug, pot}, which anyway shares the same etymology as puttana {whore; a person who uses a potta {pot} after she's done with her job) and pòta in its sexual meaning.

    ***
pòta is used in many situations, with various meanings:
    * Resignation/inescapability.
    «Pòta, fàga cosè?» {«Well, there’s nothing we can do about it.»}
    «Pòta, l’è ’ndacia mal. L’indarà mèi la pròssima ólta.» {«Alright, it went wrong. Better luck next time.»}
    * Stress something which is believed to be indisputably true.
    «Pòta, l’è pròpe ira che gh’è piö i mèse stagiù.» {«Well, things were better back then, indeed.»}
    * Annoyance.
    «Pòta, dèsdet fò!» {«Come on, hurry up!»}
    «Sét amò lé?» «Pòta…!» {«Aren’t you ready yet?» «What do you want from me? / It’s not my fault!»}
    * Astonishment/incredulity.
    «Pòta, ma…!? Sét dré a fà cosè?» {«What the hell are you doing?!»}
    * Envy.
    «Che manéra t’ó piö ést per du setimane?» «A sie ’n vacansa a i Maldive» «Pòta alura!» {«How come I haven’t seen you in two weeks?» «I was on holiday in Maldives» «Wow! (lucky you!)»}
    * Emphasize something out of the ordinary, something unexpected.
    «Ölet ü calesì de ì?» «No, grassie.» «Che manéra pò? Stét mia bé?» «No, ó apéna fenìt co la grapa.» «Ah, pòta… só a mé che te gh’é piö sit!» {«Would you like a glass of wine?» «No, thanks.» «How come? Aren’t you feeling well?» «No, I’ve just finished with schnapps» «Oh, now I see why you’re not thirsty!»}
    * Commonality of opinions.
    «S’pöl piö ’ndà ’nnante issé. Mè fà ergóta!» «Pòta, te gh’é resù.» {«Things can't go on this way. We need to do something!» «You’re right.»}
    * Agree/disagree strongly.
    «Sét pròpe sigür?» «’Tà sì!» {«Are you really sure?» «Of course I am!»}
    «Alùra te pödet pròpe mia egnì a la fèsta?» «’Tà nò!» {«So, you can’t be at the party?» «Not really.»}
    * Apologize/express sorrow.
    «Te se sét regordàt de töm ol regàl?» «Pòta, no…» {«Did you remember to buy be me a present?» «Damn, I didn’t…»}
    ***
The most common meaning is that expressing peaceful resignation, acceptance of something negative that can’t be affected and which is pointless to fight against.

    See also (in Italian).
  • 2. non sapere a che santo votarsi literally means 'to not know which saint to offer your vow to'.
  • 3. That is, when you’re learning to talk as a baby.
  • 4. Any person from Bergamo says pòta, both old and young.
The quoted sentence is a most typical one by gossipers who tend to depict dead people as saints, with excessively sugar-coated memories: even if he was an 'animal', he becomes a 'poor sod', worthy of mawkishness.
Said between friends, animale is used to jokingly refer to a person, without a negative connotation.
  • 5. The original meaning of pòta - which is fallen out of use by now - is pussy.
  • 6. Nowadays, pòta has lost all of its negative connotation, so much that it’s also used by friars.
  • 7. About a person who enjoys the pleasures of life without working, we say that he lives 'la éta del Michelàss: mangià, biv, e ndà a spàss' {the life of Michael: eating, drinking, and going for walks}.
  • 8. When politicians increase taxes and squander public money, while also getting rich themselves, we should stand up rather than say pòta with resignation; otherwise, it’s going to get worse and worse.
rospo {toad} indicates an ugly, unpleasant person (more for their personality than for their appearance).
botta {hit, blow} indicates both a consistent expenditure, and a sexual act. In this case, it’s the politicians metaphorically sodomizing people. No matter what their party is (left-wing or right-wing), they always hit people in the butt, which is a bit lower than the back pockets of jeans, where most people keep their wallets (where they keep their money).
  • 9. Bergmasque version of the famous saying ‟Tira più un pelo di figa che un carro di buoi” {a pussy hair has more pulling power than an oxen-drawn wagon}: for men, sex is an incentive stronger than anything else.
  • 10. Here, the Latin formula ora pro nobis {pray for us} is mangled with the Bergamasque pòta.
santa polenta {saint polenta} is a very toned down exclamation, not vulgar at all, so it’s suitable for friars too.
is a traditional dish in northern Italy; it’s a fundamental part of the local culture.
  • 11. Joke on mambo (the music and dance) and mamba (the snakes, that bites).

Oh I Don't Believe

A volcano explodes, again, in my body
Some meaningless pain inside of me
I will hide my love, even if I can't stand it
In my fire
A feeling of longing grows in my heart again
Reasonless letters on my tounge
I would keep my love, even if my. heart cries
In my tears

Oh, I don't believe, oh I don't believe
I was crazy in love, I kept whirling
I burned out, scorched
They say it's mad love, it doesnt know the path
It cannot stand hardness, oh, I don't believe
I loved him for nothing, without caring about his age
I wish the same for you
Oh, I don't believe

I love you

I love you
I miss you
I‘m worn out inside, I know
I‘m done with myself, I see that

I will not forget you
I miss you

Come rescue me, I do not see that I fell
Come rescue me, I do not know that I died
Come rescue me, I do not see that I fell
Come rescue me, I do not know that I was shot

There is a murder in my hands
On my heart a blood stain
I deleted the marks, yes
on the dead bodies

I loved you
I always knew you

Come rescue me, I do not see that I fell
Come rescue me, I do not know that I was shot

There is a murder in my hands

If the sea was in space

If the sea was in space,
It would've swallowed us without noticing.
Because being rough and big,
It can erase everything
With its global power.
And we, so tiny,
Wouldn't have the means to resist nature
For it's stronger than we are.
It's in every cell of our consciousness.
But one false move -
And you're trapped.

But one false move -
And you're trapped.

I Can't Endure It On My Own

Can I ask you to listen to me?
If you just throw me away forever,
It won't get any better than it is now.

Can you please not let go of me?
Or leave me alone?
I can't stop to love you anymore.

I have already understood everything you have said,
I have already understood everything that you are about explain,
I've always understood it.

But what am I supposed to do?
I already love you with all of my heart.
How can you not let me love you?
I can't endure it on my own.

I don't want to bother you,
I just want to ask you a simple question:
If you fall in love with somebody,
Can you resist your feelings?

I don't want to have to conceal my feelings again,
No matter how much it hurts, I have to gamble on,
Endure it and keep it away.

I have understood everything you have said,
I have already understood everything that you are about explain,
I've always understood it.

But what am I supposed to do?
I already love you with all of my heart.
How can you not let me love you?
I can't endure it on my own.

I don't want to bother you,
I just want to ask you a simple question:
If you fall in love with somebody,
Can you resist your feelings?

I know that I'm just a distant person to you,
Nowhere near your heart.
I know that even if somebody else would confess their love to me
You would still remain indifferent.

Telling you that I love you is going to hurt
But keeping it to myself will hurt much more
And I don't see any way I could go.

But what am I supposed to do?
I already love you with all of my heart.
How can you not let me love you?
I can't endure it on my own.

I don't want to bother you,
I just want to ask you a simple question:

Can you resist your feelings?

I don't want to bother you,
I just want to ask you a simple question:
If you fall in love with somebody,
Can you resist your feelings?
Can you suppress your feelings?

Whether you'll love me or not, I don't know.
I will keep it in my heart, where it isn't either.
All I know is that I can't endure it any longer.

Whether you'll love me or not, I don't know.
I will keep it in my heart, where it isn't either.
So, I have to ask you to understand what's on your mind.

Dialect

It’s really not true that dialect
is good only to write down those few trifles
to put on the parish newsletter;
scribbles that you can hardly read afterwards.2

My sweetest and most bitter words
turn up on the wings of dialect;
my conscience never uses the national language
to tell me what it sees.

Understanding our Bergamasque language: what a great luck,
what a beautiful heritage, a sincere way of speaking.
I breathed it in when I was still in my cradle,
it will breathe out my last thought.

Yet, pandas have a brighter future than it has,3
because words die out if there are no roots,
every season comes to an end, and the world changes:
at this point, my dear friends,
we’ll be speaking it in great amounts,
just not in our villages,
but up in a place that they call paradise.

  • 1. Italian {dialects} are actually local languages — mostly romance languages, which didn’t evolve from Italian, but evolved in parallel to it — which are called dialects just because they are not officially recognized.
Italy has a wide variety of dialects, deeply rooted in the local identity of each place. However, dialects have been despised for a long time and many of them are dangerously close to extinction. Most are still spoken widely, at least far from the cities, but their scarce adoption by young people puts them in danger of dying away together with their old speakers.
This song was composed for the National Dialect Day (January 17).
  • 2. Dialects are never taught in school, so people might learn to speak them at home or with friends, but most people cannot read or write them correctly. Moreover, most dialects have no official spelling rules, only more or less stable de facto standards.
  • 3. Pandas were at risk of extinction, and people acted to save them. Dialect are similarly endangered, but it looks like too few people care about that.

The lullaby

Night is quietly falling
And a million stars are shining.
Yesterday has taken all sorrows away.
The lights around are falling asleep.
Even the sun should go to bed.
Hug your pillow till morning.

Sleep, fall asleep like a small star.
Your dreams will be sweet and joyful.
Sleep, fall asleep like a happy cloud,
Like a moon in the night sky.

The characters in favorite books are sleeping.
It got quiet in all yards.
Just close your eyes till morning.
Your dream will be the best on Earth.
This dream will bring you to a fairytale
On its wing.

Sleep, fall asleep like a small star.
Your dreams will be sweet and joyful.
Sleep, fall asleep like a happy cloud,
Like a moon in the night sky.

Sleep, fall asleep like a small star.
Your dreams will be sweet and joyful.
Sleep, fall asleep like a happy cloud,
Like a moon in the night sky.

Rainy Blue

I can't see anybody, at midnight
It's raining outside of the telephone box
Before I finished dialling a familiar phone number
I stopped my finger.

Being wet in the cold rain,
I remembered a sad story
On your way to home, at the intersection
Only I stopped walking

Rainy blue I know it's over though
Rainy blue Why am I still chasing
Like I'm trying to erase the phantom of you
Today it's raining quietly again

Headlights passing by me
are making shadows of only me
I began searching for your white car
But I stopped and cast my eyes down soon

Rainy blue I know it's over though
Rainy blue Why am I still chasing
Like I'm trying to erase the phantom of you
Today it's raining quietly again

Rainy blue I know it's over though
Rainy blue Why am I still chasing
Like I'm trying to erase the phantom of you
Today it's raining quietly again

The memory of that time
when I was surrounded by affection
is flowing in this town
It's a rainy blue It's a rainy blue
My heart, My tears
It's a rainy blue
Loneliness
