Goldstone

Goldstone stands in the hall,
spreading his garlands,
the farmer stands and listens
hearing how the runes dance

Look now at the peasant,
as he dances and sings.

'Hear now, wealthy farmer,
you ought watch your boys,
for it is on each Christmas night
that I find them in my halls

They gave me so terrible a fight,
with a silver bowl,
had I not had the farmer's debt
I would have tied their tongues.

They gave me so terrible a fight,
with a silver milk jug,
had I not had the farmer's debt,
they'd have heard the last of it.

I've taken notice of your sheep
from cliffs and blue combes,
give me that one smallest ram,
which frolics in his red coat!'

'You have sailed for fifteen years
for free upon those vessels,
I've received no payment in this time,
it seems such a long time to wait.'

'Go down onto the beach,
have no more with you,
step on board the ship,
where you will find your treasures!

Go down onto the beach,
there you'll find much for your efforts
take with you that little chest,
the keys hang in the locks!

Therein lies a silken cloth,
like nothing you own,
sewn by my daughter Lindin
when she still lived at home.

Therein sits a silver mug,
which stands four feet tall,
I swear an oath with faith
that it's paid well many fines.

My son-in-law's name is Niklas,
he lives just there nearby,
he's become a good neighbor to me,
as well as I can see it.

My lady's name is Málfrú,
the most lovely wife,
I myself am named good Goldstone,
and the homestead called Hillside.

My lady's name is Málfrú,
the fairest woman,
I myself am named good Goldstone,
and the homestead called the Grove.

I bid adieu

I bid adieu
The two of us, we must part
Till the reunion
I will wait for comfort
I leave with you this heart of mine
For where you go
There I shall be
Be it joy or grief, be it joy or grief
Always I will be wholly yours.

I leave with you this heart of mine
For where you go
There I shall be
Be it joy or grief, be it joy or grief
Always I will be wholly yours.

My friend goes around sad.

My friend goes around sad,
Mother, and he‘s angry with me
‘Cause he can‘t talk with me
That‘s what it is, and it‘s only right
For my friend to go around sad
‘Cause he can‘t talk with me

My friend goes around sad,
Mother, and I think he‘ll die
‘Cause he can‘t talk with me
That‘s what it is, and it‘s not wrong
For my friend to go around sad
‘Cause he can‘t talk with me.

My friend goes around sad,
Mother, and he lives in sorrow
‘Cause he can‘t talk with me
That‘s what it is, and it makes sense
For my friend to go around sad
‘Cause he can‘t talk with me.

To be

If l should live so contemptible
How shameless I am
if l don't hang the lantern of my life
on the top of sere pine tree of the dead end alley

If l should live so righteous
how filthy I am
if l don't rear my faith as a mountain of eternal remembrance
On this
mortal soil

Late September

Why do you pray? Your prayers won't get through.
You're looking for something that doesn't exist.
Days and years pass, this road is a dead end.
And you knew, but you loved stubbornness.
And you knew, but you loved being far away from anything that is true.
You lived in a fictional world, hiding in denial, that it was a mirage.
Not anyone deserves you dying of fear over them!

What are you waiting for? Patience has its limits.
Do you still believe that there's hope?
If you intend to live sad, this road is a dead end.
And you knew, but you loved stubbornness.
And you knew, but you loved being far away from anything that is true.
You lived in a fictional world, hiding in denial, that it was a mirage.
Not anyone deserves you dying of fear over them!

And you knew, but you loved stubbornness.
And you knew, but you loved being far away from anything that is true.
You lived in a fictional world, hiding in denial, that it was a mirage.
Not anyone deserves you dying of fear over them!
