The Right To Live In Peace

The right to live
poet Ho Chi Minh,
who struck from Vietnam
all of humanity.
No cannon will wipe out
the furrow of your rice paddy.
The right to live in peace.

Indochina is the place
beyond the wide sea,
where they ruin the flower
with genocide and napalm.
The moon is an explosion
that blows out all the clamor.
The right to live in peace.

Uncle Ho, our song
is fire of pure love,
it's a dovecote dove,
olive from an olive grove.
It is the universal song
chain that will triumph,
the right to live in peace.

Victor Jara

Victor Jara was a son of peasants
As a child he worked
On sunburnt fields
Life was hard in Chile
His hands grew strong
His hands grew strong

He grew up and learned how to fight
His eyes saw more and more
They saw the injustice
In the villages and the towns all around
The fighting and the feasting
And what's life all about
He put into sounds and verses
For his Chilean people
Those verses were tender
Those verses were strong

He sang for the miners
For the peasants in the rural areas
He sang in front of many factories
And every worker understood
He accompanied Allende
There was a lot of work by day and by night
He sang take your brother's hand
Let's put an end to misery
His hands were tender
His hands were strong

On a bright day in September
The homicide junta made a coup
Fascist generals raided the land
And there was a graveyard peace in Chile
Thousands in the dungeons
Victor Jara was amongst them
Many were displaced to the stadium
Were tortured and tormented there
And there was nothing tender
There was nothing strong

Executions in the morning
Shots throughout the night
Pinochet's torturers
Didn't manage to silence Victor Jara
He sang for his comrades in that place
His voice was encouraging to many
He distroyed their fears with his singing
Despite of his own fear he was full of courage
Because his voice was tender
His voice was strong

The fascists broke his hands
Despite of that he still made songs
The beasts thrashed his face
Killing him slowly
Victor Jara was murdered
But his songs are not dead yet
They keep on telling about freedom
And help the Chilean people in their needs
Because his songs are vivid
Yes, his songs are strong

And we still can hear his voice
Singing about what still counts
In the struggle for Chile's freedom
It's our solidarity
That's a tender force
Yes, that force is strong
That's a tender force
Yes, that force is strong
Our force is tender
Yes, the truth is strong

The Little Cigar

I'm going to make myself a little cigar
perhaps I have tobacco
if I don't have some from where I pull it out
the most certain is that I don't whistle
Ay, ay, ay, you love me
Ay, ay, ay, you love me
Ay, ay, ay.

I'm going to make myself a little cigar
with my tobacco pouch
I smoke it and toss aside the butt
and whoever wants may pick it up
Ay, ay, ay, you love me
Ay, ay, ay, you love me
Ay, ay, ay.

When I wake up feeling cold
I light a cigar of the cane
and heat my face
with the sparked cigar
Ay, ay, ay, you love me
Ay, ay, ay, you love me
Ay, ay, ay.

You're Neither Chicha Nor Lemonade (You Are Tasteless)

Huddle up, come a bit closer, mister
Here where the sun is warm
You already are used to
Going around all over the place
So it won't hurt you
To be where it burns.

You, mister, are nothing,
Neither chicha nor lemonade
You're always stroking,
Your dignity, gee whiz man.

The party has begun
And things are getting fiery
You were the least interested before
Now you want to take over the whole dance
Because big noses
Don't let any smell escape them.

If we want more good ol' raves
First we'll have to work
And we'll have enough for all
Shelter, bread, and friendship
And if you don't agree
That's your problem
This is going to go forward
And it's not going to turn back.

Stop being so slow
Come and fix your ailment
Because I don't have any
Daggers under my poncho
And if you insist on portruding your snout
We're going to expropriate
Your gun, your tongue,
And everything else.
