She, just like formerly, had wanted
To breathe the breath from her mouth
Into my torture-ridden body,
Into my chilly little house.
Just like the sky, she stood above me,
And I could not in front of her
Move the big arm of mine to greet her,

I looked, eyes glazing over, dimly,
As over me she grieved in trance,
And there were not again between us
Insults, or words, or happiness.
The earthly heart had gotten tired
Thus many years, thus many days...
Upon its rabid troika tarried
The lure of earthly happiness!
I'm deadly ill, we see at last, and
As someone else I breathe and rue,
I'm happy now of a sunset
And endless night I do not fear...
Eternity looked in my eyes, and
Brought down upon the heart a peace.
With chilly mist of the blue night it
Put out the bonfire of distress.

For whom were you so haughty
And guiltless?
As wet raindrops fall from the carriage
So do I Seek to throw an angry challenge
