Saint Mary’s Canticle n. 55 - Saint Mary is so good in every way
This canticle tells how Saint Mary helped the nun who left her monastery and raised the child she gave birth to while going there.[Refrain:]
Saint Mary is so good in every way
that she hardly gets angry and very willingly forgives.
I'm going to tell the miracle she wanted to show in Spain
the Holy Virgin Mary, merciful and slow to anger,
for a nun who gave birth to a son born of a great sin,
conceived outside her monastery, with a priest of the Crown.
[Refrain]
That woman loved Saint Mary more than anyone else
and whenever she could, she used to pray the Liturgy of Hours
very well and diligently, and didn’t fail to recite
the third, the sixth, the vesper and the ninth,
[Refrain]
compline and matins, right in front of His Majesty.
But the devil, who holds virginity in low regard,
made her go with an abbot, as I told you,
who held her long time as a lover in Lisbon.
[Refrain]
They both lived like this until she got pregnant
