Let me say, in my defense,
that finding you here was not in my plans.
That I've digested that, this thing of you,
of me, that, well, it was stirring shit up.
I know it doesn't convince me, that it's a waste of time,
that you are not worth one of the seconds I still have.
That love, with you, the furthest, the more beautiful it is.
Quoting Mercè Rodoreda. 1

Let me say, in my defense
that finding you here was not in my plans.
That I like walking at night, narrow streets.
There's a certain magic in getting lost.
You say: Can I stay with you for a while?
And I smile because I can see you coming from a mile away
You never have to ask if you are unwelcome,
one should be able to see that.
Quoting Mercè Rodoreda.

Let me say that I'm still not okay
and that I try not to go past your street,
that there are songs that I skip too often.
It's you, a memory for life.
Let me say that I'm still not myself.
That I need time to reorganize you in my head
that there's only life if you live it slowly.

Quoting Mercè Rodoreda.

Let me say, in my defense,
that finding you here was not in my plans,
sometimes I just go out
to meet people, it works.
You should see how I've gained confidence,
how I have trimmed gigantic, paralyzing fears,
oh, yeah: the important things
are always those who don't seem to be.

Quoting Mercè Rodoreda.

Let me say that I'm still not okay
and that I try not to go past your street,
that there are songs that I skip too often.
It's you, a memory for life.
Let me say that I'm still not myself.
That I need time to reorganize you in my head
now everything is fragile, everything trembles.
My self-esteem is under construction.

Under construction.
That now everything is fragile, everything trembles.
My self-esteem is under construction.

Let me say that it would have been worse,
that that thirst for love was a big delusion.
When you throw yourself to love, and you get burnt, what do you do?
You need to change your approach.
Let me say that I'm still not myself.
That I need time to reorganize you in my head
that there's only life if you live it slowly.

  • 1. Mercè Rodoreda is probably one of the most famous catalan writers. Her works such as 'La plaça del diamant', 'Mirall trencat' and 'El carrer de les camèlies' are still nowadays printed, read and studied all over the world. Through her narrative style, Rodoreda approaches the stories of women (mostly) beautifully and simply encased in the Catalonia of the twentieth century, including historical content like the Spanish Civil war and the post-war period in Spain.
