* 'Kleftis' (or 'kleftiko' as an adjective) literally translates to thief nowadays, but in the past could also mean bandit. Historically speaking, this word is also used up to now for guerilla fighters / rebels against the Ottoman empire fighting for the independence of Greece and who used to operate in the wilderness/mountains. Most likely the latter meaning is used in this song: the grave belonged to such a fighter.
